For years Microsoft has primarily been a software company. They made the software and companies like HP, Dell, Lenovo, Acer & Asus made the hardware. Microsoft didn’t have their own computer hardware, they just provided the software for everybody else. That all changed back in 2012 when they released the Microsoft Surface tablet. It was made to compete with Apple’s iPad. It was a tablet that ran Windows. The first version was decent but the sequels turned out to be hits. Customers liked the Surface.
On October 6, 2015, Microsoft announced it’s newest version of the Surface, the Surface Pro 4 as well as it’s first laptop computer. It’s called the Surface Book. While the surface book is primarily a laptop, the screen actually is removable when you want to use it as a tablet.
The 13.5 inch touch screen display has a different shape than most laptops today. The aspect ratio of the display is 3:2 rather than the more common 16:9. It comes with a Surface Pen included in the box and runs Windows 10.
They have several models that range in price from $1,499 for an Intel Core i5 processor with 8 GB of RAM and 128 GB of storage to $3,199 for an Intel Core i7 processor with 16 GB of RAM and 1 TB of storage.
